2 very odd issue i seem to be having

i wanna make movies but i also wanna be in it how do i direct a movie and also play an important role in it. Also i feel ac ward asking pple to be a part in my films for some reason i feel like aim either annoying them or wasting there time. i know these are odd issues but tips and help would be awesome thanx

Dude, look at your presentation. Your writing and grammar is atrocious. I hope you present yourself better to the people you ask to be in your movie than you do here.

In any case, many actors have directed and starred in their own flicks. Eastwood and De Niro come to mind. I think both of these two started off as actors before picking up the craft of directing.

The pertinent question here is why the hell do we want to know about you? You tell me why we want to see your screenwriting ability, see your directing ability, and see your face acting all in the same movie. There are very few that can pull all of that off. These are questions for YOU to answer to YOURSELF.

First - write a great script. Second, cast good people to be your actors. Third, direct the film well, and fourth, deliver an outstanding performance. It's a tall order, man.

In that case, start with step one - write a great script. If you do this, your friends will want to be in it.

In the professional world, you have DOPs and assistant directors to operate cameras and yell 'Action' etc, so directing and starring in the same scene isn't too hard.

But I'm guessing you're a zero-budget amateur like me, who doesn't have a pile of actor buddies, and only uses himself as an actor due to lack of choice. Trying to point a camera at yourself and direct yourself is almost (but not quite) impossible.

Defintely think about animation - if your actors are Lego figures or puppets or drawings or computer graphics, then finding actors is irrelevant! You do need a lot of patience though - it's slow hard work. (And being able to talk in funny voices is a big help when you're playing 5 different characters... :) )

well aside from the insults you shot at me thanks for the advice. Maybe if you tried to communicate with a person with out insulting them they would be a tad bit more thankful. But if thats just the type of person you are then what can i do.

Thanx for the Helpful advice. People who reply to me like that other user did shouldn't be on this site mainly because its to help people not hurt them. But above all thanx

I missed any insults - presentation is everything. You mispell alot of words and have poor grammar and people will not take you seriously. If you think you are wasting your friends time, you probably are. Taormina is pretty much spot on. Perhaps a little harsh, but welcome to life. Dont ask questions if you dont want answers.

I'm very sorry if you felt insulted. I meant no offense. I was trying to help. If you think I was harsh, imagine talking to an agent or casting director.

As someone who has directed himself in an amatuer film (a drama, no less), I would tell you to ask yourself one question: "Am I the best person for this part?" If the answer is "No" then go find someone else, anyone else because you're just heading for disaster. Not to be insulting, but in your first post you didn't exactly come across as a seasoned filmmaker. This means that you need to concentrate on the craft of filmmaking instead of splitting your attention across two fields and not doing well in either.

It's tough enough to direct actors, and it's tougher when you're director and actor. I thought I could do it. I couldn't. Don't make the same mistake as me.

What Taormina said is for your own good. When you try sending off a message to someone or have to respond in writing, you're going to make a less than favourable (Canadian spelling) impression if you write like you do in your posts, and that will hurt your chances at accomplishing whatever it is you are trying to do.

The difference is that here, someone will point it out to you...a producer or decent actor would just read it, dismiss it as poor quality, possibly form a negative opinion about you, and move on. By the time you figured out you need to improve your syntax, you could very well have built a reputation for shoddy writing or bad communication skills.

Also, try and keep a thick skin. If you can't handle a little constructive criticism on here, how will deal with the rejection out there? Just a few days ago, Taormina and I got into a little exchange of jabs, but when he asked for audio advice over the last couple of days, I offered whatever I could to help him out, just as others did.

So relax...you can learn an awful lot on here, even if you don't like the way some of it sounds.

I do appreciate the help on the audio DeSica - I forgot to mention it to you. See, gusthebus? We can all play nice here.

You said a general thanks on the thread...that's enough for me, so no problem.

By the way, when I mentioned the ntg-2 worked well mounted on camera outdoors, I didn't mean you should use it that way specifically...it's going to sound even better when you boom it correctly, especially with good wind protection. I used the regular foam and was fine.

Also, I think Oleg mentions that the octava mics have trouble with handling noise, so while they are great for indoors and inexpensive, you need good shock mount and pole, plus someone who knows how to handle them.

Well if constructive criticism is the case I'm fine with that. I just thought he was throwing digs. If constructive criticism is all thats being said, I apologize for that misunderstanding

Great...and thanks for tossing in a comma and some periods. We all appreciate the effort.

Hey gusthebus - not trying to be pedantic, but your stock went up about 1000% with that last post. Good job.

I think we all stand ready to help in whatever way we can. Ask away.

Gotta admit, that is kind of funny.

Hahah Yea well i was so used to talking on AIM instant messenger i kind of let it drag on to hear. But it's a good thing taormina made me realize that talking like that on this kind of site is not really a good idea, even if he did say it a tad bit mean lol

Well...what I found funny is the criticism of your atrocious grammar...delivered using equally atrocious grammar.
