2 Quick Questions About K-Tek K-SSM and Canon HV20

First, I am looking around to purchase some audio equipment. I have looked high and low for the K-Tek K-SSM that seems to be so highly recommended and can't seem to find a reputable dealer to purchase from. Has this mount been discontinued? If so, what would be an acceptable replacement that would fit both the Oktava and the NTG-1?

Second, my new camera (Canon HV20) does not have XLR input. Instead, it has a 3.5mm plug. How do I deal with this if I want to use an external mic like the Oktava or the NTG-1...?

I have the HV 20. You have a couple of options. First is a Beechtek box like this

Check the full specs as I'm not sure this is the specific one for the camera. The other option, which I chose, was to buy a mixer and a set of adapters to go from XLR down to the mini plug. I wanted better audio all-around and knew the mixer would be a long term investment. The benefit of the mixer is that you'll get top grade preamps for the mics and the ability to send more than one source to the camera. And mix, or course! The disadvantage is cost and an extra piece of gear...but you're heading in that direction with the Beachtek box.

Cheers,
Bob

Okay. So, after many, MANY threads, I'm starting to find some answers (sort of).

The question is, should one use an external recorder (like the Zoom H4) or go the Beachtek route? I'm reading a lot of things about sync problems in post on the external recorder. Any advice?

Yes, I found the Trewaudio link shortly after I posted. :) Thank you for that. I already knew about the Soundroom. I'm sort of building gear one piece at a time. Which sucks because I am hella impatient. :(
