2 questions re Final Cut Pro - please?

HI FCP gurus!
I'm just getting FCP now for first time, I used to work in analog editing several years ago... but anyway, I would like to know a couple of things if any of you can help please!
1. I'm getting some old cine8 footage tranfered at the moment and this is the technical stuff I would like some help with - just to know if I can handle these file formats with FCP5 when I get it in a couple of weeks and instal on my Powerbook g4 (which is an upgrade to 7200rpm drive with 2gig ram and ATI Radeon card).... this is what they tell me re the cine 8 transfer format:
" it gets transfered/captured into AVI type 2 progressive files at 18fps. AVI DV type 2. 720 x 576. File size is about 13G per hour. Colour format is 411 DV. The raw file produced by our conversion system is progressive but obviously as cine runs at 18fps and pal video at 25fps you will find that the raw file will play fast. To solve this problem we usually render the file at a slower speed which involves frame pull down to fill in the gaps. This final file is interlaced. If you wish we can provide you with the raw progressive avi file and you can apply the pull down yourself with your editing software. Please check whether your system can handle AVI type 2 files."
So FCP guru dudes! Can you tell me if I will be able to handle these progressive AVI type 2 files at 18fps with FCP?
I would like to take it progressive so I will have options to do clean slo mos and still frames on the old footage which will have pictures of my great grandmother in the 50's that I may need to extend or pause on.
Question 2. I'm just wondering in advance - as I will be using my g4 powerbook with FCP5 to edit DVCproHD off the new HVX200 - I presume even though my powerbook screen is not HD resolution - it will let me see the footage at it's screen resolution in real time as I edit it native HD through FCP / Extreme RT thingy?
Thanks to anyone who read that lot!

Ah gurus comon!
Well I'm nearly sure that FCP5 will handle the AVI type 2 files as I saw something about this mentioned on a third party site... would be nice to know for sure but hey I'll find out soon enough as the system is on its way to me now.

Regarding your second question - what type of media storage are you using? That will be a be factor in determining what kind of playback you're going to get.

I highly doubt it. Lower-end G5's will have trouble playing back HD footage at full resolution in native HD. You'll need a PCI or external HD rendering solution if you wish to do this, or a fast G5 with a RAID setup and beefy graphics card (not to mention a lot of ram).

Hi, I'll be using the new G4 Powerbook which is upgraded to 7200 rpm drive and 2gig of DDR2 SDRAM and ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 graphics processor - 128MB of DDR SDRAM. I also plan to get a new laCie 1TB FW800 external 0Raid drive to use with it. Damn, this should work as the native DVCproHD runs at 100mbps or a gig per minute - afterall that's how you get 8mins of it on an 8gig P2 card.
If not this system then is there any portable system for decent field editing, coz I just can't lug a new dual or quad G5 around on my travels!

There's also the Apple Intermediate Codec that will reduce CPU overhead and allow HDV frame acturate editing. Will allow HD edting on a PowerBook or G5 to run faster, smoother.
