2 Part Question-Please Help

Ok. I'll make this quick, I had a rush shoot a week ago and so many things went wrong. The First, I forgot to turn on the Shotgon Mic switch and instead ended up recording dialouge from the DVX Mic.

Throughtout my whole project I've used the Rode NTG-2 Shotgon Mic, is it possible to get the onboard Mic to sound as close to the Shotgon Mic as possible? I know It's almost impossible to get the same quality sound, one thing I notice is Bass, the shotgon sound has a lot of crisp bass, so maybe there's a way in vegas to turn up the bass. Any of you guys ever had this problem and if so I'd appreciate any tricks to help me out.

Part deux!

Durring the same rush shoot, I did a scene next to a window glass and Yup you guessed it, a Damn Set up Light is in the reflection, and it's really noticeble. Is there some kind of Vegas trick where I can remove the light glare in the window? The problem is I can't go back and reshoot at that location, it was a one time deal.

:(

P.s I intentionally mispelled Shotgon, I'm at work and we have a serious firewall! :badputer:

Quick Fix

Quick Fix

Did you try masking the window and use a plug-in to tweak the mask?( Assuming the camera was locked down for this shot). As far as the audio allignment, I'd try working on it in a seperate audio app..

Thanks for your reply Crazylegs, but I don't know much about Vegas, how do I Mask the window? I'm assuming I take a stillshot of the frame then do something...?

Yeah, with the Audio, I will have to just experiment with the Busses and stuff...

WoW, ur First Post, and it's a help post, congrats.

He, he - I shot a baptism 2 weeks ago and during the ceremony I did the same thing - had my Rode NTG connected but the cam switched to internal.

There's nothing wrong with the internal mics; they're quite good, what you will get is more room reverberation instead of that nice direct sound you get from a boom or lavalier mic. You could try a combination of EQ & gating on the audio but unless you intend on adding a music bed the gating effect will be quite obvious especially if the audio is weak and you need compress it.

To get rid of your window video light reflection you could easily draw out a bezier mask or use the cookie cutter to blank it out.

Can you tell me how to do this? I'm using Vegas 6. If I pull this off, it will eliminate so many headaches...

Can you post a frame grab (screen shot) that shows this?

If your camera is locked down it might me easier to just use the cookie cutter.
Bezier masking is a topic in itself.

Just briefly though:
1) First make a copy of the video clip onto an adjacent track below in the identical timing position

2) On the first video track then open up the clip's Pan/Crop window

3) Tick the Mask box at the bottom right of the timeline

4) Notice that a new bunch of tools now apears in the left hand side of the Pan/Crop Window.

5) Select the Anchor Creation Tool and carefully draw points around the offending artefact to forming a rubber band around it.

6) This will cause everything outside of the sellected area to become dimmed.

7) Then change the Mode drop down box from 'positive to 'negative' which will reverse the situation.

8) Close the Pan Crop window

9) Open the Pa/Crop window on your copied clip below

10) Look at your preview monitor and move the 'F' around selecting another part of the window which does not feature the video light glare and that's it!

You may also need to introduce the Feathering control to realy fine tune this however, you should really consult the Vegas manual for to do it properly.

Good Luck!

Here is a still shot of the frame. You can see the light in the right top. Obviously, there's no way somebody can miss this once viewing the film. I have to get rid of this by any means. :crybaby:

Thanks for all your help Beziermask, I will be spending half of my weekend trying to figure this out, the instructions really help, I'll keep you posted.
