2.40:1 masking in Vegas?

Hey everyone --

I was wondering if I can take some native 4:3 (1.33 I assume?) from my dvx footage and crop it to appear in 2.40:1.

Thanks!

thanks!

thanks!

yeah i used the pan/crop tool to basically make it "look" scope, but i wasn't certain of the actual dimension, so thank you very much!! :dankk2:

What I do, is shoot squeeze mode so my footage is already flagged as anamorphic and then I inset black from the media generators on the topmost two tracks. One, I set the y-coordinate for 660 and the other -180. This gives the same dimensions but doesn't make you crop every clip. (yes I know there is a fast way to do this but hey, this is my style)

All it does for me is zoom in on the image and make it bigger... and when i put "no" for maintain aspect ratio, I don't even see the black bars...

Hmmm, this still isn't working... Is there something I should do in preferences? or prior to going into the pan/crop tool?

Well, I type 270 in the height, than the width turns to 528.3 and it still has the 1:85:1 crop and the image just looks bigger... Maybe, that's the way it looks in the editor, and than when I print the DVD it shows the crop?

EDIT - Sorry to bring this up again... But I changed the thing from 4:3 to widescreen... and when I type 270... It looks like 4:3 1:85:1 or 16:9... Is that normal?

Also, the anamorphic squeez in the LCD on my DVX LCD will go to regular widescreen once I put the image into Vegas right?

Also, what should I set the height at for 2:35:1?

I'm sorry for so many questions...

Thanks

Well if you changed your footage to fit widescreen and still want the 2:35:1 aspect ratio...you might want to save a new preset in the pan/crop window.

My settings for footage that was shot in widescreen is:

Width - 720
Height - 369.4

check it. I think its pretty accurate.

True true. What I did actually to get those measurements is take a screen grab from a DVD that was widescreen, and the movie was shot in 2:35:1, put the frame in Vegas and match the pan/crop measurements to the footage and save the preset.

Actually, that height (mine) was for 2:35:1. Mathematically, it should really be 355 or thereabouts for 2.40:1.

Then you want the 720x355 (or whatever looks best for you), rendered with a Widescreen DVD template, and burned as a Widescreen DVD (in DVD Architect or whatever you use).

I'm confused... when I watch a widescreen movie, the 2:35:1 crop looks like it's set at the 270 setting. Than when I set the height at 355, it just looks 16:9... Not even close to a Widescreen DVD crop... Well, the thickness in the black bars that is... I dont mean to be a pest, but can somebody please explain that?

Thanks
