2.39:1 crop out of COMPRESSOR????!?

I want to make a 1280x536 video (which I believe is the correct frame size for a (720p) 2.39:1 crop from my source video) from my 16x9 footage out of FCP.

I'm using Apple Compressor to do this, and while I know a way to do this for 2.35:1, I can't figure out how to correctly do this for 2.39:1. Help me gurus!

What I use to crop footage in compressor to 2.35:1 is I:

1. change "crop to" under the geometry tab to "panavision 2.35:1"
2. change frame size dimension under geometry to 1280x544

When I keep step 1 the same, and just change the frame size it just stretches the video to include the same cropping (2.35:1) in a 1280x536 frame.

also.. 2.39:1 matte in fcp????

also.. 2.39:1 matte in fcp????

Is there a way to place a 2.39:1 matte on my footage in fcp?????

I know there's a widescreen matte filter--but that has nothing between 2.35:1 and 2.55:1....

Yup... you're right. I got that part. But, when I want to export it WITHOUT the blackbars via compressor.... what then? I can crop the top and bottom of the clip via a calculation like this:

720 (height for 1280x720 with black bars) - 536 = 184 then divided by 2 = 92.

That should be what I have to crop the top and bottom by in the geometry custom crop window. But when I try it--it's way too little. Seems like the crompressor geometry tab computes the crop differently.

I could futz around with it via the preview. But I want the exact right crop. any ideas?

I'd do that out of FCP as well- more precise control over your frame size. Just specify a custom size out of QT conversion and set pixels to square.

Thanks Noah. Quick Q though. Wouldn't you lose the ability to specifically assign how much to crop from each side? If you are cropping top and bottom, for instance, how does QT conversion decide how much to take from top, and how much from bottom?

Thanks
