1st time capturing into fcp with 24p advanced?

This is my first time capturing into FCP and I've finally got through the nine chapters of the apple fcp training book that proceeds this process. Two things I want to make sure about:

1) If I shot in 24p advanced I want to choose 24p advanced pulldown removal correct?

2) I want to store everything on my 250g external harddrive so how do I set that up? What will be the working relationship between my computers harddrive (I still have 150gb plus there) and the external? Is it quicker to work with stuff on my computers harddrive than the external? Hope I'm making some sense but I'm brand new to digital editing (kinda from the days of tape and flatbeds) and I've enver worked with an ecternal harrdrive before. I have a 250g g-tech that's still in it's box.

Thanks for the help.

1. Yes.
2. Internal drives are faster. There's a potential for dropepd frames when capturing to a external firewire drive since you have both the camera and the drive go through the same pipeline. Firewire drives aren't official supported by Apple but quite a few people di it with no problems.
