Hey,

Any directors out there plan to add a 1st AC to their crew and shoot on the DVX100? Do I need one even for a skeleton crew?

I already have a DP just want to figure out what other essential crew I need.

Thanks,

Chris

While not necessarily a full time job on a small crew DV shoot there are certainly many aspects of the job that are nearly essential, so yes, you will likely need someone. This person could also handle other tasks such as grip, gaffer but nothing else when the camera is rolling if you want to keep your DP happy.

True. Keeping your DP happy is always a good idea, right? What thigns could they do like slate the scene, setup the camera, carry tripods andother gear and label the tapes as scenes are shot?

A first ACs job description on a small crew could include:

Assist the DP by keeping things needed at hand and well organized
Slating the takes
Keeping the camera log (unless you have a scripty which can handle that)
Keep track of tapes or other media
Pull focus
Dolly grip
and any other tasks that might arise

This is obviously an important job, so let the DP select someone that they feel comfortable with in terms of personality and abilities
