$1999 or $2499 MacBook Pro?

So, I'm going to be purchasing a new MBP in the next few weeks and was wondering all of your opinions.

Right now I'm looking at the $2499 model but it's going to be a long stretch and might have to borrow some money from the pops to get it, which I don't want to do.

What I want to do with it is mainly FCP and minimal Motion.

My other option is going with the $1999 model and having some money left over for FCE (for the time being) and other gear.

Will the $1999 be sufficient? Or should I not even be looking at it. I know the big difference in the 2 models is the video card (128mb vs 256mb). Which one should I go with?

According to rumours, the Macbook pro is due for an update soon. I would hold of untill the end of the month for confirmation.

If you really need it now, though, its a good machine, but its way underpowered compared to the competition.

Underpowered? Compared to PC's? I beg to differ if that's what you're getting at.

I know it's due for an update VERY soon. I've been waiting since November. If the Vid Card gets a boost to 256mb in the base model then I'll go with that. Otherwise I think I'm gonna hold out and get the $2499 model.

i've had my macbook pro for about a year now. it's a dual 2.16hgz intel core 2 duo, with 2gb of 667 RAM.

I have some problems lately, with system slowness overall, but that has a lot to do with me beating this thing up all the time and i just installed leopard. (which i wouldnt suggest, unless you are going to do a clean install)

point is, the cheaper will work fine! i'd say wait a little bit and see what's coming out, but i was looking at the regular mac books, and the newest one has almost the same specs as my current macbook pro (for 1500)

as long as i'm doing 720p editing or below it has no problem at all! i do get some stutters, etc. if i am editing 1080.

Really? wow, that's impressive. My current system can barely handle SD footage.

what are you running on now, what software?

i work all dvcprohd. i have had some issues with HDV, but have never taken in footage straight from tape.

i have never been happier! rendering stuff might take longer but nothing is cooler than being completely untethered, editing on the couch all off the main hdd (small projects, now, don't hurt your system!)

It's a DELL that's like 3 years old at home

and then at school I'm using FCP, I only edit on my system at home when I ABSOLUTELY have to. Which is why I'm going to get a MBP, so I don't have to go to school everyday.

el jeffe, I get a nice discount on everything Apple, so refurb stuff is unnecessary. Thanks anywho.
