On the post production side:

Magic Bullet:

DigiEffects Cinelook, which includes a film damage plugin:

Nattress Film Effects for FCP (I presume you're using Premiere however):

BigFX FilmFX:
Amazing. We are matching some old 16mm wildlife film shot in the 50's and 60's with Betacam shot last month on a Betacam 600 for a show for the Discovery Channel. It works beautifully!!

On the production side:

A progressive scan camera.

Cinema gamma.

Wide format aspect ratio.

Cinema DOF (depth of field) and FOV (field or angle of view) using 35mm adaptors (there are many).

My suggestion:

All of these options will only approximate the look of film. If you want the look of film, then shoot on it. Perhaps get hold of an old Super8 cam; Super8 can provide a beautiful nostalgic "old" look.

thanks I'm really going for the that old 1970's look the colors where so different then

Perhaps you could adjust the red channel... You might have to export it to .flm and blur the red channel in Photoshop. I'm not sure if you can do it in premiere.

I wanted that '70s look too.

I made some 70's stuff with Magic Bullet Editors:

It looks better in motion- there's gate weave, flicker, scratches and dust. It really looks terrible, which was perfect as we were going for "home movie" style.
