16x9 title effect

hi i was just wondering if anyone knew the approximate pixel size for a 16x9 (1:85:) image i'm planning on creating a title effect and i want it to be the same size as a widescreen image '

also i have many programs at my disposal which is the best for doing this? i'm on a pc

i have adobe illustrator and flash, freehand, image ready etc...

Re: 16x9 title effect

Premiere(any version) and AE either use a 864x480 or 864x486 file  for 16:9 stills... 864x486 would be optimal.

although if Photoshop CS is amoung your other programs, you can simply create a 720x480 file with a designated pixel aspect ratio of 1.2 for a 16:9 project. and import it into PPro or any other NLE flawlessly...which makes life very easy.

Re: 16x9 title effect

i would like the black bars to appear as, the original image i drew in photoshop that will be animated contains the black bars and they are actually part of the picture however the image is very low quality and i would like to redraw and up the detail a bit before i add the animations

Re: 16x9 title effect

actually i just noticed photoshop 7 has preset image sizes and one is for 864 x 486 i guess my only question now is how tall are each of the black bars that typically come with a widescreen image?

Re: 16x9 title effect

PPro = Premiere Pro

it will display the image as it is. so wysiwyg (what you see is what you get.)

Re: 16x9 title effect

so an image shot with the anamorphic adaptor should be 864x480. now, does that mean the image still has a .9 pixel aspect ratio? if so, then a square pixel anamorphic image would be 864x540?

Re: 16x9 title effect

No, that would be the square pixel size (864x480). Anamorphic images have a 1.2:1 pixel aspect ratio.

Re: 16x9 title effect

Remember, though, that 16:9 is 1.78:1, not 1.85:1. Don't know if that makes a difference, but to quell confusion . . .

Re: 16x9 title effect

confusing? nah, especialy since it seems to me the term 16x9 is used loosely.

864x480 = 1.80 (what the dvx anamorphic spits out)

854x480 = 1.78 (real 16x9)

960x480 = 2.00 (supposadly what the xl2 spits out? said to be 16x9?)

wut up with the different numbers? im sure no one will notice the difference between 1.8 and 1.78 though....

Re: 16x9 title effect

..yep .. the .9 pixel spect size is always going to be 740x480 or 740x486

for the still image square pixel import size though you would use the 864x 480 or 864x486.. the 486 is the technically correct one to use, but you wont be able to tell the difference at all as to which one you actually use.

although if you have photoshop CS, it allows you to make images with given pixel aspects for video.. so your images would be 740x480 but you can make it at a 1.2 pixel aspect so its anamorphic 16:9 or a .9 aspect for regular 4:3 and so on. .. a very nice feature indeedilly doo
