16x9 Matte

Have some fooage shot in 16x9 and now need to add a 16x9 matte to footage shot in 4x3. I did a search for matte and 16x9 but nothing comes up. I definitely remember seeing this topic in the forum in the last year or two. :)

In addition, I recall there being discussion about the 16x9 not covering the sides or the top and bottom fully, so please address if you have any info.

Many thanks.

The easiest way is to use the Pan/Crop feature. There's a 16x9 preset in there. Just besure it's not set to stretch the image, or you'll end up with short fat people. :)

I have the same problem.

Instead of adding the pan/crop effect to all my hundreds of clips I'm gonna put 2 pieces of black tape on my second monitor, which I use as a direct display of the footage.

Put it on one. Copy the clip. Select all the others. Right-click on one. Choose "Paste Event Attributes." Select video only or it won't work. Do it to a clip which has no effects on it, and all you will change about the other clips is the cropping.

Or, if you have Vegas 6, start a new project and open your project inside that one as a nested project. Then, you can just crop the "clip" that is your project.

Thanks for the suggestion. This actually brings up a question: my project is in vegas5 now, can I open it in vegas6 if were to upgrade?

...he says immediately after I just finished changing my mind about cropping 40 clips to 2.40:1

:)

Now, you may have to reframe individual clips to get them to look their best, but that's the beauty of shooting full frame and cropping later (as opposed to shooting letterboxed).
