16x9 HD formatted to 4x3?

I need to have my film (16x9 HD) formatted to 4x3 letterbox for a festival because the screens are 4x3.

However, I'm not exactly sure if this is already done because the canvas in FCP appears to be a 4x3 window and I've been able to play a DVD of the film on a regular TV screen with no problems.

If there's still a process to go through, how would I go about doing this conversion?

Also, some of my footage is scaled (motion tab) so I'm not sure if that matters at all.

Thank you.

Thanks for the reply. I'll try that.

If I want to output it onto a MiniDV tape, would I import the compressed file back into FCP and print to video? Or is there another way?

just nest the 16x9 sequence in a 4x3 sequence and output it

Thanks. I had tried that before but some footage kept becoming distorted. Then, I realized I had to drag the sequence as if it was a single clip.

Now, does a "4x3 sequence" mean changing the aspect ratio in the sequence settings to 4:3 instead of the default 3:2?
