16x9 adapter lens + 35mm adapter

Let me ask a couple questions on this thread...lol to save space. Do you reuse tapes? And when shooting on squeeze mode with 16:9 does it show when capturing the film to final cut?

On FCP, in my experience, the 16:9 squeeze footage is unsqueezed and letterboxed automatically. However, this basically turns it into 4:3 letterbox so you have to go in the video effects settings and bring the distortion down to zero (I think it applies a 33% distort) which would then make it look squeezed in the preview window, which is what you want for full 16:9, but you'll have to adjust your titles and such accordingly depending on what you're doing (ie. titles over the opening video). I haven't fiddled with the FCP ingest settings or anything, so I don't know if there's some checkbox somewhere that disables this or not but that's what I've been doing and it works for me now that I know how to fix it easily.

Reusing tapes is a fine practice, but I wouldn't recommend doing so for a professional project (ie. filmed a wedding last week now you want to use those used tapes for a wedding for this week). I've found that reusing tapes causes issues in quality, one time I reused a tape and the tape jammed. Of course I had probably used that same tape a few times before and my camera heads were a little on the dirty side at the time anyway. Really, I find that it's just ultimately safer to buy a value pack of tapes and use a new one each time.

I've never used it but I don't think the anamorphic adapter would be so nice on a 35mm adapter since there's already focus issues with it anyway and adding the whole calibration of the 35mm adapter on top of that would probably end up being a huge pain and a waste of time for you. However, this idea is usually shot down anyway, if you would like to experiment with it, feel free to, but I make no guarantees. Most people feel it would just be simpler to use either the 35mm adapter with squeeze mode or shoot without the 35mm adapter and use the anamorphic instead of squeeze.

Just shoot with the 35 adapter and crop it later, i dont understand what everybodies allegience to anamorphic adapters is, its just an extra layer of glass you don't need

As for shooting squeeze - why? The camera has 4:3 native chips, you're not going to be gaining anything, and if you crop it later you have more control over what the framing will be.

Cameras like the XL2 and HVX have 16:9 native chips, so on those shooting 16:9 makes sense, whereas 4:3 doesn't
