Re: 16mm movies

ur gonna have a hard time since if its a well known movie, that 16mm films been blown up to 35mm for projection.

el mariachi was shot in 16... thats all i can think of right now

at IMDB u cant sort by format

Re: 16mm movies

At risk of shamelessly plugging the DVX DVD again, I did this test and showed 16mm, and then DVX, and then DVX "corrected" to look more like 16mm. I think the results are very close, but I leave it up to the viewer to decide if they think the results are good enough for them.

Re: 16mm movies

Cheesesailor, I'm pretty sure Miramax blew El Mariachi up to 35 as well. Evil Dead was shot on 16mm, but I'm guessing also blown up

Re: 16mm movies

Leaving las vegas was shot on 16mm, if you want a cheapo flick the south park guys shot a movie called cannibal the musical on 16mm as well. The idea would be finding them on dvd for a good idea of what they have to offer.

Re: 16mm movies

Clerks was 16mm. I'm pretty sure Swingers was as well, though not positive.

I'm going to assume they were both blown up to 35mm thought.

It's a classic. Gotta love a good Troma release

Hell yeah! It's worth the price for the drunken commentary track alone.

Re: 16mm movies

Hehe. I like how they point out how Trey says "cut" in one of the shots in "That's All I'm Askin' For".

I don't know if you are a big Troma fan Horse, but that scene at the start was only put in because Troma asked them to put some more violence up front. That's either in one of Lloyd Kaufman's books or on the Cannibal! DVD in which case you probably already know.

Re: 16mm movies

If you have a Hollywood Video near you, two movies I shot back around 1999, "Reflex Action" and "Unseen Evil", both shot on 16mm should be on the shelves.

I own a DVX100, but still love the feel of 16mm. I think that the 250ASA film stocks and lower look great. Where HD and the DVX beat 16mm is when you're shooting 500ASA stuff. It's gets mighty grainy. Now the 100 and 50 ASA looks great.

Re: 16mm movies

a thought came to my head while reading one of the links...

why did they in the past, those sitcoms shot in video, like full house or bill cosby, when in studio was video and outside, film? any technical reason for that?

Re: 16mm movies

So was Bad Taste and Brain Dead (think its called Dead Alive in the states). These are two of Peter Jacksons early offerings which i like more than the LOTR trilogy.
