16GB firmware update and 4GB cards

Just playing devil's advocate here but with the 4Gb cards being discontinued is there any chance that the firmware upgrade for the 16GB crads might render the 4GB cards unusable? In my opinion Panasonic did the right thing by not pricing the 16s at $1,200.-$1,400. as expected but could they force users to upgrade?

Obviously this a question only Panasonic can answer but it got me thinking this morning on the way in to work. I'm still using some 4 giggers and with the resale prices plummeting on ebay I just don't want to give them away, so I'm hoping that even with the 16s and eventually the 32s that all sizes will still be compatible with the HVX.

I ordered 2 16s last night from AValive which they said were expected mid-May but he also had just spoken to his Panasonic rep 5 minutes before I called and the rep said that the firmware upgrade may be delayed till June or July. He then told me that the May shipment might also be the last one till almost the end of the Summer.

seems FAR fetched that Panasonic would leave its users stranded like that.

They need all the support they can get for P2, a firmware update that would render 4gb cards useless wouldnt make any sense.

I know you said you were playing devils advo with that question

No way would they do that. There's no reason to do it, and you have to keep in mind that they have many massive clients using this system now so they have huge corporations to answer to. Making 4GB cards not work anymore would be crazy...
