160 LED Light... put on a light stand?

So on a recent film shoot, somebody had two 160 LED portable, battery powered lights. I loved using them because they were easy gel, could be put almost anywhere, and were great for a little bit of highlight...

My only issue is that their only mount was a hot shoe (they had a 1/4th inch mount on the bottom of the hot shoe as well)... so I could mount them to cameras or tripods/monopods, but not lightstands.

Are there any cheap adapters for mounting those style of lights to a traditional lightstand?

I use a similar umbrella holder, from eBay. Just search "Umbrella Holder" in "Cameras and Photo".

They come with a spigot that has both 1/4 20 male and female ends and 3/8 male and female ends. Just put the 1/4 20 male end into the bottom of the light and then secure the light to a stand using the umbrella holder. This gives you the ability to tilt the light.

Even if its a matter of budget or quick on set rigging.. you could always mount a 3" long 1/4" bolt to a gobo head on a c-stand. It'll cost less than $1!!!

Yeah, having that 1/4 20 screw hole in the bottom of any gear gives you a lot of ways to mount the stuff on a set. A lot of inexpensive light weight light stands have a 5/8" top stud with a 1/4 20 screw on it. It is kind of a pain to use pro lights with them because of the screw, but with stuff like the little LED lights you can just screw them onto the screw and call it a day. Of course, you can not tilt the light, but it would still be handy.

One thing though, be careful when screwing metal parts into a plastic screw hole. It is easy to strip out the screw hole. Just watch what you are doing and don't tighten them down to tight.

I use a bunch of nano clamps to attach lightweight LED lights to stands and booms. Not the cheapest way if you don't have the clamps already but a pretty easy and flexible system. I also have a few of those friction arms if I need very specific positioning.

Its got pros and cons like all mounts but yes, its great for small fixtures that have a 1/4-20 mount on them.
