I don't understand why a 16:9 widescreen adapter is needed if the camera takes care of that function already? Is this adapter really needed. Am I confused?

You might get more spin on this up in the technical or harware section Patrick. this zone tends to focus more on the wherabouts of Hillcity or why my girlfreind watches so much TV.

Also, if you want tips on that adaptor specifically the anamorphic adapter, you should buy Barry Green's DVX guide that has at least 10 pages focusing on how to get results with your adapter, or why you should or should not use it, as opposed to the letterbox, squeeze or widescreen modes. Hope this helps.... There are already some threads out there referring to this specific question too.

Re: 16:9 WIDESCREEN ADAPTER

Patrick, in a nutshell, the in-camera widescreen digitally stretches the image to 16x9 (the camera is natively 4x3, which is less resolution). This causes some resolution loss (less sharpness, less detail).

When you use the anamorphic adapter, you are getting true 16x9 footage without any digital resizing so you are, in effect, making the camera native 16x9.

Because of the mechanics of the lens attachment you lose significant control over depth of field and you also need to work harder at focussing... The limitations of the lens attachment have been well-documented on this site.

thanks,
do you prefer the attachment?

Re: 16:9 WIDESCREEN ADAPTER

No, I don't use it at all because of its limitations. There's an alternative that I use that uprezzes the 4x3 footage more efficiently than in the camera using a program called Photozoom. You can find more info on it at the 2nd to top post in the Technical section.
