I am shooting footage with the HVX200 in DVCPro50 16:9. My client will need to play the video on a many different mediums: Widescreen TV, Web, DVD, etc.

How do I convert the 16:9 video to 4:3 with no black bars in Premiere CS3?

Does the safe area change when shooting 16:9? I don't want to cut off a person talking.

Thanks,
Larry

If you want to convert 16:9 footage to air on a 4:3 TV with no "black bars", then you're pretty much talking about doing a "pan & scan" or "center extraction" or "side crop". Which means keeping the full height of the image, but chopping off the left and right sides.

You can use the 4:3 guidelines instead of the 90% safety zone to keep your footage within the 4:3 safe area. But, you'll be giving up the guideline of the safety zone, so you'll want to frame wider than normal just to make sure you don't chop off someone's head, etc.
