I've shot a film in 24pA / squeeze mode and exported to quicktime to burn to DVD ...

The quicktime movie is perfect looking and playing...

but my TV and DVD players: and I have 3, and all fairly new. They don't recognize the 16:9 even when I select 16:9 in the menu(of tv and/or dvd player).....it only works and shows the unsqueezed image if I change the dvd or tv menu during the movie as it plays.

if there something I should do before or while exporting to make it so tv's/dvd players recognize th 16:9 ratio and do the switch automatically (as they're supposed to, and they do with other movies). ?

you have to tell your DVD authoring aplication that you want 16:9 so it wil set the right flag in the header.

I didn't know the DVX had a squeeze mode. I know it has its built-in letterboxing, but I didn't know you could squeeze it in camera and then set it to 16:9 in FCP.

Odd. I used the anamorphicizer....and iDVD then read and previewd the movie as 16:9/widescreen.
but then after burning all my dvd players/tv's still don't read it unless I go and change the display manually from the TV or DVD player menu.
