16:9 sizing (analog!)

Hopefully this post fits close enough to this category.

If you had to stretch out a squeezed (16:9) image manually inside an older NLE analog editing suite, does anyone know what the correct pixel settings would be?

This is at a news station and I don't even know what kind of software this is (usually handles Beta SP via S-video) but they can get the sqeezed footage to look letterboxed by changing the pixel count settings.

ex- 720x480, etc. ?

I'm not 100% sure what the values should be. Maybe I should just shoot a perfect circle on a white square of paper and match it with my eye?!

Depending on what you want to do, you have two choices. If you're going to stretch horizontally and remain locked vertically (which would not be my guess) go to 853*480. If on the other hand you want the vertical to be squeezed down and the horizontal to stay the same, put it at 720*405. This is the same as a distortion factor or -33.33 if you need to put it in that way. Hope that's what you were looking for.
Peace,

-Harry
