16:9 mattebox (new improved)

Re: 16:9 mattebox (new improved)

Wow--that looks great. All you need are some adjustable flags and you should sell the thing.

Re: 16:9 mattebox (new improved)

It really looks too good to be a homemade solution. I'm always impressed by people with tool skills...

Re: 16:9 mattebox (new improved)

Seriously, looks sturdier than the Formatts!

If you have the time, I bet you could put it on this website to sell everytime you finish one. I'm betting they'd go like hot cakes.

I just bought a FM 500 and while testing it out in the city, I got distracted by a pretty lady and tried to follow her into a deli.

The edge of my sunshade hit the door. Surprisingly, every was kosher and all that happened was the corner of the flag got bent sharply and the black coating peeled off to reveal shiny metal.

But she was a :D and worth it ;).

Re: 16:9 mattebox (new improved)

Actually I have adjustable flags for it, and this one was pre-sold, I built it for dvx user rob austin. It turned out better than I expected. Still no vignetting on a regular screen and in the underscan mode just a tiny slice down the right side.

Re: 16:9 mattebox (new improved)

I just bought an FM-500, but I have to ask--how much would you charge for a mattebox with flags?

Re: 16:9 mattebox (new improved)

The box is $650.00US, with flags. Keep in mind they are hand built, I don't have an inventory of these things lying around, it takes time.

Re: 16:9 mattebox (new improved)

Doug, are you the guy that modified a Cavision 4x4 matte box to work with the Anamorphic adapter? What did you do?

Re: 16:9 mattebox (new improved)

I'm not sure? I didn't modify anything, I just pushed the 16:9 lens right up against the Cavision box, on rails, and found that it could work, but you wouldhave to zoom into about 6mm on the ring. You also have to modify the lens ie; trim it back, just as you would have to for the Chrosziel.

Re: 16:9 mattebox (new improved)

Ok, so this one doesn't work with the anamorpic adapter. Could you do one that would?

Re: 16:9 mattebox (new improved)

great job. in your pictures what kind of follow focus are displaying?

Re: 16:9 mattebox (new improved)

No no Barry_S, this one does work with the pana-ana lens, this is a mattebox I specifically built for the Panasonic lens. I have a cavision box as well that remains un-modified.

The follow focus is a Cavision.

Re: 16:9 mattebox (new improved)

i went back to the pics and don't see the follow focus....are you guys talking abtout the focus ring?

Re: 16:9 mattebox (new improved)

I've changed the page, it now only shows the new box. The follow focus has been sold.

Re: 16:9 mattebox (new improved)

Wow! that looks really good Doug. I'm impressed! How long did it take you to build something like that? Good job man.

Re: 16:9 mattebox (new improved)

wow Mad . . . I am impressed . . . great work man . . . great skills :D

Re: 16:9 mattebox (new improved)

Sorry Bluespider, already got someone working on a logo for me. The box takes about 4 solid days of work. They are for sale if anyone wants one. I had them listed at 650.00US, seems cheap to me, but there don't seem to be many takers. I thought that a box that works as well as this one with the anamorphic lens would sell quick. DVXuser Rob_austin in lubbock, who purchased one, seems to be the only one using his ana lens with filters. Unless of course you can afford the Chrosziel. I build these to support my filmmaking habit. Right now I'm working on a device that would allow you to setup hard stops for snapping focus, not like the century ring which has hard stops at 3ft  and infinity, but actual moveable stops so you could put them at any two focus point you wanted, and snap focus from one to the other.( Or "pull focus" whichever word works best to describe it.) I'm just finishing up my jib right now. Later.

ADDED: I also modify the anamorphic lens free of charge.
