16:9 lcd field monitor?

I have that monitor and I like it. There was a thread within the past couple weeks regarding it. I'm sure you did a search. Look around and you may find it.

most of the posts around this monitor drift into other more complicated monitor set-ups, i'm looking to see what people think of this one? and its eqivelant wireless model (not sure where to find that one)? From what I understand it's good with the dvx but you can't focus with the hvx... is this really true, I plan on buying the hvx a year down the road, but from these threads, there aren't any great monitors for the hvx without rigging lots of extra stuff and using adapters etc... thoughts on the vzrizoom?

As for the HVX, from what I understand, the lower resolution monitors, such as this and most other LCDs are not good for focusing the HVX. On page 3 of this thread: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=56829&page=3 , Tom (for Varizoom) mentions the new 8" HD monitor. IT is specifically for HD applications, but from what I understand, the price is outrageous. That's overstating. Probably not outrageous compared to similar products, but outrageous compared to the 7" 16:9 SD.

Again, I like the 7" 16:9. The thing that drives me crazy is that I cant mount it in a good position on my FigRig to also keep my DVX Lcd open which is necessary to check the Zebra stripes. The DVX does not display Zebras on external monitors. That KILLS me. I live by the Zebras. Other than that, which isnt the VZ's fault, I like the display.

yeah, i read alll of the other threads, i was just wondring if the complaints of not being able to focus were exaggerated, I've had people tell me it's impossible to focus on the dvx lcd, but it's always worked fine for me...

Hey guys,
I know we are just talking about the varizoom field monitor and I wasnt sure if to bring this up in this thread but Gage mentioned that the DVX dosent show zebras in an external monitor and I wanted to know if a tablet pc with an application of DV Rack software installed into it would help? Since the dv rack software has the zebras already as part of its function and the pc's only weigh about 4lbs which shouldnt make it too hard to mount to the camera or an "arm".
But does dv rack handle HD? I'm actually waiting for the Tablet Pc to arive any day now and I wish i could remember.

Im not sure DV rack can handle HD at this stage. I would email the guys at DVrack directly from what I hear they are pretty helpful.

On a side... how do you guys use monitors like this atached to the cam? Ive thought about it in the past, but think to myself how do you attach a sunshade to it while its on the cam? Also how much screen can you 7 well at 7 inches?

I made a shade from black foam core and gaffers as soon as I got the monitor home and while it does shade very well, I use the Fig 90% of the time and when moving the rig up and down and around, it gets hard to see the picture. If I hold low, the shade is blocking my view, if I'm holding high, it's at too much angle to get a good look. The best is holding the rig at chest level, but holding the rig out in front like that gets mucho tiring.

16x9

16x9

I'm picked up a portable DVD player with a 10.2" screen. It works great and shows overscan:the complete picture. Still working on a mounting. I just orderd a tripod mount from B&h video. It looks like this setup may work as a less expensive alternative, about 320. dollars total.

Or go to best buy right now and pick up the 'Insignia' 7" DVD player

16:9 with video in. I just use it for framing shots with my jib.

$79

cant beat that.

UNLESS you need a high quality field monitor for color checking and other things. Then you better get a nice one and expect on paying 1300 or so for that.

They are beta testing the hd version right now.
I've heard that there is a B&S special where if you buy it now they will up you to the HD version for free.
