16:9 DVD doesn't fit on my TV screen -- footage too big!!??

so i burned a 16:9 DVD and my Samsung HD TV when set to 16:9, plays the DVD, but the footage is cut off on both right/left sides.(as if it's zoomed in) why???

i don't see why it doesn't fit in the TV, when it is in fact in 16:9 mode (not Zoom1 or Zoom2 mode!) so weird...

here's links for two pics:

1) from the FCP browser

2) how it looks on the Samsung HD TV

the top and bottom are about right...but then the right/left sides are getting way chopped off. i did mess up and not place the text in the title safe, but as you can see it's getting chopped off way more than it should.
again i'm in regular 16:9 mode on my TV - not zoom.

btw, sequence setting in FCP : DV-NTSC Anamorphic

video format: 24p/Squeeze mode on Panasonic DVX100A

any ideas anyone?? i appreciate you reading this!

When you play the DVD back on your computer does it display properly? I know you said your TV is setup properly but what about your DVD player? The picture on your TV looks extra 'stretched' compared to the image grab from FCP.

i have an older Mitsubishi DVD player -- has no settings for playing DVD's...just plays 'em.

yeah the DVD plays fine on my puter...no mad cropping!!

fwiw, dvds include data that tells the dvd player how to display the video... 16:9 or 4:3, there should have been a selection box somewhere in the authoring application.

DVDpro 4 has the setting you have to go into system/user settings and change to 16x9 from 4x3. You can change the menu settings, playback display etc to match. It will look much better, i had the same issue, and I shoot in 24pA in squeeze mode. After doing this, my footage came out looking exactly like it does in the viewfinder and Mac.

BTW-does DVDpro show your footage as being 23.98 or 29.97? I can't get mine to read my imported footage correctly as 23.98. Just wondering since you didn't mention it in your post.
