16:9, 35mm adaptors & the DVX

During the time I've been jonesing for an HD camera, I've come to appreciate my DVX and what it can do. I'm liking the look that you can get with a Brevis or M2 adaptor, but get hung up on the lack of native 16:9 chips on the DVX. I've done some letterbox shoots and also have played with the squeeze mode (which isn't as bad as everyone seems to make it seem).

Sooooo.....

if you're using a 35mm adaptor, I'm assuming that there's no anamorphic lens that can be used to squeeze the widescreen view onto the 4:3 chips. Is this a correct assumption?

I'd like to hear comments from those of you who are using the squeeze mode with a Brevis or M2 and what you think of the results.

So manglerbmx,

I'm sorry, I'm new to the anamorphic theory. I bought a dvx and an m2. my primes have a filter diameter of 52mm. So the schneideroptics anamorphic adapter is used at the end of the chain, fitted to my slr prime lens? I'm assuming there is some light loss... am I totally mixed up on how this works?

Anyone know off hand how much this costs? The Panasonic's is around $800, right? Is this one comparable?

Thanks!

Well, I heard the camera only shoots in Squeez, but it gets read as regular anamaphoric... So what I plan on doing when I get a 35mm adaptor is just using that with squeez and supposidly you need an external monitor for that, so if you get a 16:9 widescreen monitor, than you should be set...

I also heard that squeez overexposes the image ... so I dunno... But thats my plan of attack =)

I personally don't like the squeeze mode. I have an M2 adapter and a 16:9 monitor, but still use it in 4:3. I find that your focus loses accuracy when you squeeze the image in camera. i've had better result messing with this in post. but thats just my opinion. you really have to mess with it for a while and see what works best with your set up.
