15mm rods

I'm debating between getting the Cavision mini-dv base plate + rods or getting the Redrock baseplate +rods. Clearly the red rock is more expensive, but is it worth it? Also, are there any places to get cheaper 15mm rods than the ones on the red rock site? How long are the rods included with the cavision, I can't find this info anywhere, so maybe someone with one already can tell me.

I just bought the red rock micro follow focus and need rods to use it with my dvx. Currently I don't have a mattebox, but would like room to add one eventually. I'm high up on the preorder list for the g35, so if/whenver it comes out and I go for the cavision I may need to get longer rods anyway. If anyone can give me suggestions or comments on their similar working systems that would be great. Also, I heard that red rock takes awhile to ship their M2's, is this the same for the baseplates/rods?

I have the Cavision rods and they are about 9" long (IIRC). I personally like the style of the Red Rock rods over the Cavision, but that speaks nothing to the Cavision quality. They are excellent and I recommend them.

9" doesn't seem very long, how much can you put on this? follow focus, mattebox, 35mm adapter + 35 lenses?

It's not very long. You could put a matte box and 35mm adaptor + lens (short focal length) on it. The way the Cavision rod bracket is designed, I don't think a FF would fit on a DVX because the lens is so close to the body.

I highly recommend the cavision set. High quality and looks cool. I have plenty of room for my follow focus and a mattebox. Plus if you find you need longer rods you can just buy longer 15mm rods. They make various lengths, bh sells them.

Noah, you can check this link for pix of the new indiRAILS that I make. With 10" carbon fiber 15mm rods they're $99, and 18" carbon fiber (best for use with 35mm adaptor/mattebox combo) is $129. There will be the indiRAILSpro---has 32" rods with a heavy mounting system for larger cameras and heavy accessories---think anton bauer brick batts/FS-4/monitors.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm slightly concerned after BennisHahn's comment. Will the redrock follow focus fit on the dvx with cavision base plate and rods? J5, which follow focus are you using and are you using it with a 35 adapter or just straight with the dvx? Also, I was looking on the B&H website and didn't see various rod sizes, can you send me a link? It's easiest for me to buy at B&H because I live in New York so I won't have to wait/pay for shipping, but thanks Focus This!, I'll still take a look at them.
