1500 bucks for lights.

Hey guys. I'm only a year into cinematography, and now I totally feel the pain of not having my own lighting kit (always renting on my gigs)

I only have 1500 dollars budgeted for lights though.

The next short I'll be doing will have both indoor and outdoor photography, both which will of course need artificial lighting.

What should I get? I want a well balanced kit..it seems like you can only buy either daylight or tungsten kits..

I need to pull the trigger on a kit in the next three days to have it delivered in time for the shoot.

Whats the best quality for the money?

I need suggestions fast

At $1500 you probably can only afford tungsten. Are you looking to buy grip too? If so, a huge percentage of your budget will go towards that. Lights are cheap, having something to mount the light on/with and all the stuff that goes in front of the light are where things get pricey.

I'm not an expert and I don't own any lights but I would try a set of those if $1500 is all you have. If you do let me know because if there any good I'll buy them too:). Are you shooting with a 35mm adapter?

The cool lights ones are a pretty good deal to but they don't include stands. (not that those are top notch or anthing). You would probably want a boom stand or too, some gels for daylight balance/ effect, ND gels, some diffusion, softboxes, C stands, bounce card, ect. Like he said, thats where most the money goes.

I might wait till the next shoot and do some more research and figure out how MUCH light you need and how your going to use it.
