1440x1080 => 16:9 output ?

Noob alert. Can someone help me understand how a 1440x1080 resolution camera like the Canon XH-A1 can (can it? does it? i don't know) render footage to 1920x1080 or 16:9 aspect ratio or whatever? I have a little Canon VIXIA HF100 that shoots 1920x1080 and I am trying to decide whether to perhaps buy an XH-A1, but if the XHA1 shoots 1440x1080 how would that work compatibility-wise in terms of still using my littl VIXIA as a second camera? The two cameras shoot at different aspect ratios, how could I use the footage from both during editing? If my goal is to produce blu-ray HD 1920x1080 rendered output, can the Canon XH-A1 do that, and if so I do not understand how?

Same aspect ratio, the 1440 wide one uses a slightly fudged system.

See the 1920x1080 pixels are square.

But the 1440x1080 pixels are rectangles (1 pixel tall and 1.33 pixels wide).

But both are 1080P 16x9 footage. Most 1080P footage is aquired at less than 1920 pixels wide.

Interesting. That makes sense, since 1440 x 1.333333 is the 1920 of AVCHD 1920x1080 square pixel cameras like me Canon VIXIA. Thank you for making that clear to me!
