1394 Card Question

Where does it say that?

In any case, it'll work just fine. Apple's FireWire and Sony's i.Link are all IEEE-1394.

If it's way cheap on eBay, it's probably a scam.

$5? It's called excessive shipping and handling :D And insurance too. Did you read the auction carefully?

Yeah, but that doesn't make it a scam, necessarily. ebay takes a percentage of the selling price, and folks got pissed about how much of a percentage, so they lower the selling price and jack up the shipping & handling (which ebay doesn't touch).

If the total total is still reasonable...what the heck. :)

But for a computer card (of any kind), just go to Best Buy or Circuit City or someplace. Unless it's a rare/legacy/not-made-anymore item.

I would avoid Best Buy and Circuit City for most purchases... they're most likely overpriced. Not only that, their employees have to try to push some sort of extended warranty onto you (they call it a service protection plan or something). Whereas online it would be $25 shipped or thereabouts.

Fair enough... but it makes the actual price a PITA to calculate.

"Overpriced" by $5 or so is often worth not having to wait a couple of days, especially on a such a low-priced item. If you want to avoid being pushed for an extended warranty, don't talk to anyone. Just pick it up and go. If the cashier asks, say "no."
