12' speed rails?

recently on a number of occasions i run into need for 10-12' rail to mount lights over. Usually i solved the problem having my grip guy mound two 6' rails together using a c-stand arm but this solution is costing me an arm and 3 extra gobo heads - i was wondering if you can recommend some other solution. I don't foresee necessity for 12' overhead any time soon so i would prefer not to spend $500 to buy the frame if i only need one element of the kit.

Any suggestions?

Hey Patryk, is there any way you could use Matthews (or others) connectors (319550 for 1-1/4" or 319552 for 1-1/2")? Our NYC office should have these for you. You could, with 6' speed rail on either side, use 319651 ears to extend butterfly size pipe into 12 x 12' overheads too.

You can just buy a single 12' piece of speedrail seperate from a frame. Pretty sure a place like home depot or any other place like that will have it. Just make sure you get 1-1/4" pipe so it's compatible with most film related speedrail accessories.

Otherwise, go with what Erik is saying and buy a speedrail sleeve.

i guess i should have been more exact. my "speedrail" is 3/4 Square Aluminum Tube. also i need it to be more portable - single 12' won't do as it doesn't fit nicely in most of vehicles.

You can still get that sleeve for square tubing to connect two pieces up, but what kind of lights are you hanging off it? You'll notice a lot less bending if you opt for two pieces of 6' speedrail and a sleeve.
