I have a film going into a festival and they requested 1080p MKV, MOV or MP4 and than put onto a thumbdrive. I'm on Vegas Pro 12. The film was shot on the Canon 5d mkiii at 1920x1080 24p I'm going to send them each setting to make sure I'm covered.

I'm rendering a Quicktime 7 (MOV) at 3 Mbps Video, custom at High Definition (1920x1080).

There is a: Sony AVC/MVC MP4 and a Sony XAVC/XAVC S MP4 - which direction do I need to go?

And I wasn't able to find 1080p MKV

Thanks

It's the Matroska wrapper/container which is an open source format. I imagine there's a way to get it out of Vegas but you may have more options with a 3rd party converter.

3Mbps seems very low for a 1080p festival submission... You aren't screening at that bitrate I hope.

12 to 15 mbps for that (all flavors). I would export at a fairly uncompressed file, then run through an external encoder. The free open source "h.264 encoder" will get you a nice h.264 codec mp4, not sure about mkv, but there should be plenty of encoders for that. I'd skip the mov, last thing you want is to find out there was a big gamma shift that makes your video look like garbage.
