1080 Blu-Ray not possible from Premier?

Is 1080 Blu-Ray not possible from P2 and Adobe or am I missing something?

My source file says 1280x1080.

Encore and the Adobe Media encoder export to Blu-Ray only has 4 selections for the frame size.
1920x1080
1440x1080
1280x720
720x576

Adobe says thats all the frame sizes available for Blu-Ray. I have a call into Panasonic but have not heard back.

Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a work around?
Thanks for you thoughts. David

You can render out as any of the Blu-Ray templates. Don't worry about the source file dimensions; it's all about pixel shape and it will be translated correctly.

David, my problem is when I play it back the picture does not fill up the screen area. I dont have this problem with 720. Are you using encore? Thanks

My computer. I should do some tests with just the mxf files. I do have some black video and titals in the sequence, maybe they are throwing off the aspec ratio? I'll run just the mxf files tonight and see what happens. I'll check back. Thanks.

Using just the MXF files I have the same problem. I use Cyberlink Power DVD to play Blu-Ray on the computer. And I get the same frame size problem when viewing in Bridge CS3.

Are you concerned with black bars on the top and bottom of the screen? If that's so, then Mister Stocks is correct; your monitor screen isn't 16:9.

I dont hink its the monitor, the black bar is on the right side. 1920 gives about a 70% video and 30% black bar 1440 about 80/20. 1280 x 720 has the correct aspect ratio. these aspect ratios preview the same in Bridge. This is only when exporting out to Encore for Blu-Ray and only 1080.

It sounds like a pixel aspect ratio problem somewhere. 1920x1080 is right for a 1:1 PAR. Could it be a problem with the source video's PAR?

If this is the first time you've tried to output 1080, you might want to uninstall CS3 and then re-install it as something might be messed up. If you've successfully done 1080 before, then this is much less likely and would point to something amiss in your output parameters in the Media Encoder.

Select the source clip, right click, interpret footage and make sure its NOT set to square pixels. Seelct the pixel size for your clip.

After comparing the source video it looks like the PAR is correct for Blu-ray. What is happening is that at 1920x1080 the footage is clipped on the right side 30% at 1440x1080 clipped about 20% and at 1280x720 the footage is correct. If you have AME export a 1080 clip to blu-ray mpg2 1920x1080 and preview in bridge. Is your footage clipped? Thank all for looking into this.

Are you sure your video isn't 1280h and 720w. Most of the time 720p is called 720x1280 and your saying it backward made me think of this.

I have never seen the vertical resolution put first on anything. Just check the WIKI for a good reference http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-definition_video
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATSC_Standards
Monitors are 1280x1024 not 1024x1280!

If your source is 1920x1080 or 1280x720 then it is 16:9 with square pixels
anything else in anamorphic without square pixels and you have to set the interpretation correctly for it to work the way you want.

josh, same as you not sure about the CS4 problem.
MrFluffy, source is P2 1280x1080. Right now I'm using export AME to Blu-ray Mpg2 1280x720 works fine, not sure if I'm loosing any quality.

Your image will be first expanded to 1920x1080 to restore the true 16:9 size, then compressed to 1280x720. There will be some loss on both coversions.

This is one reason im going to get an HMC151. IT gives native HD so I can matchmove with square pixels. I hate anamorphic :)

This is a sample of the Adobe Media Encoder export 1920x1080. PAR looks correct. I have gone through the usual, uninstall re-install, re-boot etc. The source is DVCPROHD 1.5 all other exports work fine. IS anyone using AME with P2 for export to Bluray with 1080?
