1080 24pA question

I shot 24pa, brought it into FCP, clicked on: tools -- remove advanced pulldown. I'm getting a pop up "File does not contain frames encoded using advanced pulldown". What am I doing wrong?

Or does FCP 6.02 automatically remove pulldown when I log and transfer?

What camera? If the camera can shoot true/native 24p to a solid state card (whether Sony or Panny), then there are no redundant (pulldown) frames to deal with. That was one of the problems that screwed up a lot of HVX200 imports a while back. If you had that option turned on, when trying to ingest the P2 cards FCP would not play nice. Turn it off and things seem to be right in the Apple universe again.

Cheers.

If you can pull the footage into a 1080/23.98 timebase sequence, and you don't get the message saying your footage isn't optimized (and you don't have to render to playback), the pulldown is already removed. I think.

I used to shoot 24pA on the DVX and I never once needed to remove the pulldown manually. But like you Phil, I have only ever shot 720/24pN with my HVX, so I would like confirmation of this too...

Well, since nobody else responded, I came home and tested it myself.

I shot some 1080i/24pA footage with my HVX. Then I brought it into my Mac using P2CMS. Then I opened FCP 6.0.2 and used Easy Setup to select DVCPro HD - 1080pA24 (must have the 23.98 rate selected for this option to be available). Then I used Log and Transfer to bring my clip into FCP. When I placed the clip into my timeline, it plays back perfectly.

So if you follow these steps, the pulldown will be automatically removed and you can carry about your editing business. I hope that helps.
