does anyone have experience with going out to 35mm film from Final cut? I am shooting with the HPX500 in 1080 24p "A" and would like to know the steps necessary for transferring to film. thanks!

First and foremost is talk to all the other creative professionals involved in your overall workflow. Have you talked to your sound guys? Will they require a 29.97 version of picture lock for their purposes? If so you need to worry about a capture card that can do the pulldown properly for you. Have you talked with them about helping you create good break points for the reels? Have you talked to the film lab/post facility about what they want from you? Do they want HDCam, do they want a hard drive with a million tiff images, etc.? And the color timers, what format do they want (or what formats will they tolerate)? That would be the first thing I'd worry about, talking with everyone that is going to be involved in the process with you.

Purely FCP wise, you just need to break you piece up into reels (I believe its 20 mins, but forget the exact count). Then as I mentioned above you need to address all the other issues with the other people that will be involved in the process. You will need to modify your steps based upon their needs (to a degree at least).

cheers.
