100mm bowl tripod heads?

It seems that lots of folks really like the Bogen/Manforotto 503 head and I'm not counting that out just yet.

I would like to hear from folks that believe there may be a better value at close to the same price price point.

Has anyone tried the FM18 head that comes atop the Davis & Sanford airlift?

I have a good set of Manfrotto legs (350MVB) with a 100mm bowl.

I have the davis and sanford pro vista tripod and it has the fm18 head on it. For $200 its a fine little setup. But its not a true fluid head, its a fluid friction head. Mine has a 75mm bowl on it, i'm trying to find out if its possible to buy a 503 head to put on those legs. The 503 head is deff. a much better head.

I read that the 503 is also a combination fluid - friction head.

I'm under the impression that you have to go to the Bogen 516 head before you get true fluid.
