100b headphone noise

hi,
My sony mdr-v6 head phones arrived today and when i plug them into the cam i get a hiss noise in the background, thats before i even plug in the mic. The hiss gets quieter when i turn down the monitoring controls on the side of cam but then i cant hear so well. I dont think its recorderd to tape. Is this white noise or something that is pretty common? i did a search and some folk mentioned having this sorta hiss on their 100a's. Thanks

Most of the panasonic cameras have terrible headphone amps,
including the 100, 200, 300, 500, sdx900 to name a few. (the 900 sounds great, but has the noise)
They all add "hiss" into your headphones.
The varicam sounds pretty dang good for a headphone return.

If you're using an external mixer (which im thinking you are not)
you can come out of the RCAs on the side of the 100a into the return on your mixer
and monitor though that. It's cleaner.
