I saw an ad in the Sunday paper for a Craftsman 1000 watt worklight at Sears for $19.99 now what is up with that picture? I paid $420 for my 1,000 watt Arri. Now I know I was paying for the name but geez $19.99! Actually it was on sale. The normal price is $29.99.

I'd take advantage of that immediately! It's hard to find deals on good lights. I'd buy it and then sell the other one.

I'll give you $40 for that crappy Arri, then you can go buy another two Sears lights.

It's a long way from that Sears worklight to an Arri 1K fresnel.  The Arri is 3200K, the worklight is 3000K or whatever.  The Arri can be spoted or flooded, controlled with barndoors, or scrims, or a softbox.  The worklight indiscriminantly sprays harsh light all over the place.  The Arri is built to strict safety standards, the worklights???  I'd buy cheap fluorescent fixtures before I'd get those worklights, but some people like them.

True...I might go ahead and get those worklights if I need to light up a large area. But I agree with you on the Arri comment.

Yeah for $20, it wouldn't hurt to get a couple as backups or for occasional situations where you need to light a big area, but the sure won't replace an Arri. :)

That's exactly why I have them... just in case. I started with these and have since picked up some real video lights, but they really come in handy in some situations.

I used one of those Sears worklights for a short film I shot last summer. It works well as sunlight, and if I didn't have that light, then the shot wouldn't have looked as good.
