1000 post video changed my life.

Maybe that's a little dramatic of a thread title, but I do have a funny story I wanted to share.

As some of you know, I've desperatly been trying to find a new job with the (hopeful) possibility of relocating my family to blissful Wilmington, NC. What I have come to believe is DVXUser Mecca (note, that's not why I want to live there, just a perk). As such I've been sending out so many resumes and demo reels that the US Government has contacted me and demanded that I become a distribution company before sending anymore.

Numbers of phone calls / e-mails / contacts that I've received from those resumes: 0

So I figured I must be doing something wrong. I recut my reel and reauthored the DVD. So I'm looking at this thing and either in an act of brillance or an act of frustration I recut my 1,000 post video from oh so long ago (back when Brandon only have 1,000 posts ... so not THAT long ago) to make it a little more "interviewy" and I slap that on my reel as a menu option. I figured it's there if someone is interested, and if they want to skip it, no harm done. And I start sending this version of my reel out to basically anyone between Springfield and NC.

Yesterday I finally had an interview for a job. Not in North Carolina, but in Branson, MO (so I'm not even going the right direction). Still, it sounds like a cool job and a good opportunity. The interview went well, but at the end of the interview the lady says that my qualifications were great, but the reason she's considering my for the job is because of that interview on my reel!

This site has taught me tons of information, caused me to meet some really great friends, and may have landed me a job. :dankk2:

Just thought I'd share.

Cape Fear has become sort of a Mecca for the DVXuser

Well... where's a link to the miracle interview??

I do agree that a lot of the time it CAN benifit to not be so uptight and "professional" with resume's and what not. They teach you in school to use all the big words and make it as professional as can, but they don't say anything about being personal in your requests.

That's how I got my first job, which lead on to much bigger things. I sent out a very personal letter to over 50-60 company's explaining my situation of never having a decent job, always felt like I was wondering around looking for something more, and that THIS is what I wanted to do. To my surprise, the VERY NEXT DAY, I had 14 responses. People wrote that it was a very touching letter, and how with an outlook like that, I'd find what I was looking for. People that didn't even have open positions wrote back just to say "good luck" and how they enjoyed reading the letter.

Met with 4 company's the next week, narrowed it down to two, fit better with one. Been working ever since.

Don't know why I just rambled on with that. I'm hungover... please excuse me.
