100 vs. 100a.

Hey, forgive me if this has been covered elsewhere but I bought the 100 a few months ago intending to shoot a feature this summer with it (wanted some time to get familiar w/it b4 shooting)...just saw the new 100a in the B&H catalogue and feel like a real chump.
Anyone have any thoughts to make me feel better?
Any things WORSE, 4 ex. on the 100a?
Finally, anyone hear/read about 100a audio sync being [much] better?
I feel like a jerk...wish I had waited.

Check out the Indie film November it was shot with the 100 and just won the cinematography award at sundance. It was shot 4:3 and croped in post. Just goes to show what this great camera can do. And the right people behind it. I own the 100 also bought it last October do I wish I had waited? NO WAY!! Until I can say I have completly mastered this camera. it won't be an issue. Once I have mastered it I know the income that will be generated from my work will more than pay for a second camera. Then I will buy an "A" version.Hopefully all the bugs well be worked out by then. Till then I'll let the work speak for itself. Live! Learn! Shoot! Life is a movie! Just my 2 cents imho! 8)

One way that I like to justify my own DVX100 (no A) is that when it REALLY comes down to it, the artist makes the image, not the brush. I know this sounds REALLY cliche, but its true.

Just because film stocks and lenses weren't as high quality in the 70's as they are today, did that stop "The Godfather" from having awesome cinematography? What about even farther back than that, in "Casablanca"? They didn't even have COLOUR! But they used their tools to their advantage, and did a kick ass job with them.

The minute differences between the 100 and the 100A are so insignificant in the long run, that a good DP won't get much of a difference using either camera. We're shooting in 24P, with an excellent camera that gives vibrant colours, rich blacks, and has great optics. Use it to its full potential!

I just want to say that after much research on the 100 and 100A, I just bought (2 weeks ago) the 100 on purpose.  The features of the A are not worth the price.
 
- new prism: no noticeable difference betwixt the two
- focus drag/focus assist: real focusing is going to require a pro flw-focus system anyway
- squeeze mode: you still don't get the rez of the anamorphic adapter
- lower mech noise: shouldn't matter.  your mic should be off the camera
- slower shutters: film-like shutter speed is 1/48(or close) anyway.  Any motion in these slower speeds is going to end=up wwaayy blurred anyway.
- adjustable kness: I would like this feature, but is it worth the money? no
- quicker mode-switching: will this ever affect an actual shoot?  It's not a quick-draw contest.
- closer MOD: nice feature, but 16 inch diff? BFD.
- Gain in prog mode: never use gain, light properly
- EVF DTL: this is nice also, but I really need to get a field monitor anyway
 
These are the main differences, but again, the 3 things that I would like to have don't justify the $$.  Especially not your having to spend all of that extra $$ to get them.  Not when you could solve the same problems with atcual BETTER pro equipment and set-ups for around the same $$, maybe a little more.
 
Anyway, that's why I am happily shooting with my 2 week old DVX100.  I have no jealousy pangs at all.  I just don't find it worth the disappointment you're putting yourself through.  You're hating your sweet new camera, when you should be becoming one with it.  You need to focus and find your center.  Try tai chi and post back tomorrow.  The key to inner peace in this hardship is to shoot beautiful images, piece them together in a heartwarming story and find your tloubles merting away.  (did I just say tloubles merting away?)

My only remaining question; anyone notice synch sound w/image probs on the 100? thought i detected quite obvious ones in the footage section here...
also, is it poss. to easily fix in post?

I've read that there are problems with the synch...but I've been shooting with my DVX a lot, and I haven't noticed any problems...

I wonder if it would be only for longer shots, Lagging of the pulldown or something?

The audio is 1 to 2 frames ahead of the video in progressive mode only. It's really easy to alter in post if it's noticeable in your footage. Depending on your NLE, it should take only a couple of seconds.

I dont know about you guys, but my dvx is always out of sync, even in 60i. I have to put a clap on every take. Seems like the audio is 4 frames behind.

This is in FCP 4.1 on g5.

I should capture on my pb and see if the issue is there as well, maybe something is messed up on g5
