Little Miss Sunshine. Looks great, really.

Entertainment Weekly's cover says "How A Sundance Indie Became A Summer Surprise".

How can a movie with Steve Carrel, Alan Arkin, and Greg Kinear, and an $8,000,000 budget be called an INDIE MOVIE?

Compared to Spiderman III. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Yeah, dont you know that all us indies ought to have Hollywood contacts and a few million dollars to squander for a feature summer film?

Huh. You cant put B.S. in a thread title. I didnt know that.

Who did that, by the way? And is that a word?

I think that one studio should put a cut-off at the amount of people who sign up, and then take EVERYONE's name, and divide SpiderMan 3's budget, and give an equal amount to everyone. For sake of filmmaking.

Yeah... it's one thing to say "Napoleon Dynamite" was an indie summer surprise... and it's another to say an 8 mil. dollar movie was... I think Memento was made for 8 mil.

Star Wars EP 1-3 were independent. So was Terminator 3. At least I believe it was. T3 had a budget of like 190 Million. I think it's when you make a film with private finaces, that's independent?

Indie means no studio involvement.. private financing.

George Lucas is the worlds richest Indie filmmaker.

I wish I could find someone to invest 8 million in my next project.

Exactly.

People get too confused on what it means.

Indie is a term like small business, it has a broad range. Maybe a more precise term should be created that captures the essence of "real world indie" or describing indie films with the working mans budget.

Maybe "Blue-collar indie?"

Independent covers a wide berth of budgets; from Stars Wars 1-3, to The Passion, to Reservoir Dogs, to Blood Simple, to Halloween, to Pi, to Clerks, to El Mariache.

Only since DV has the idea of independent feature applied to people with less then a million dollars (by today's inflation adjusted dollar) because, save for a few unique examples, a million was pretty much the minimum to get anything done.

As Loki said, all it really means is independent funding, not studio.

Cheers

Blaine...? What do you have against me.

I laugh when I see your hate-posts (a harsh way of saying it), but come on! If you didnt know my age, would you take me more seriously?

Im as interested in video as everyone else here. I dont think your going to find another 14-year-older (other than "bballplaya" and some other guy) that knows what a DVX is, or even has such a strong interest in making movies, other than the point-and-shoot idiots who live on You-Tube.

he probably only says stuff like that just because he knows you'll respond to it.
