10 minutes to render 10 sec clip, is it normal

As soon as you go into 3d space, and start rendering 3d items, your render time can take up to 3x longer than usual.

You can enable GPU effects while rendering, but this will not give you the same quality as doing a software (and slower) render.

Try with GPU enabled rendering, to cut your time down conciderably, but just make sure that the quality is okay for what you are rendering.

You think 10 minutes is long? Back when I was learning 3D on a Mac G4 and Power PC, it would take 6 hours to render a small 10 second clip of animation. Of course, the Mac would always crash in the last 5 seconds, losing everything.

If you think AE renders are too long, stay away from anything 3D.

You don't know what longs render times are until you are dealing with 2-6 hours per frame.

No doubt! Last month I had a job that was running at 18 hours a frame!!! (I ended up pushing it to a render farm instead of just locally in order to finish in time)
