10 Essential Facts About 'Terminator Salvation'

If they don't have that laser pew-pew sound from the T1 & T2 flashbacks I'm leaving.

Ha!!!!! I'm not the only one who wants the plasma rifles. Seriously though, I don't see them using them in this new series at all. Cinematic realism is all the rage these days and a laser gun immediately says nerdy and unrealistic to a lot of people. Plus, I'd be willing to bet that to most potential viewers of this new Terminator flick, a machine gun is a much more manly weapon than a laser gun.

Seriously, as great as standard old machine guns have worked for Aliens and the new Battlestar Galactica series, somebody really needs to completely reinvent the laser or plasma rifle for sci-fi films in a different way than Star Wars and Star Trek have done them.

This is one of the best reasons to just do more original material instead of dragging old film franchises out of retirement and adding a sequel to it so many years later. Of course, I know that the studios will continue to resurrect old films because it is a sure thing compared to taking a risk on a new concept.

I feel like a lot of great franchises have been screwed up because of this reason. Sometimes its just not possible to do a remake or prequel or sequel that can live up to the original, most of the times it ends up screwing up the original film, for me at least. Only a few films have been able to do it right, Aliens, T2, but both those movies were kind of like back to back accept maybe for T2 that came out much later.

But what can we do, the powers that be will do what ever they want, regardless, its just a rare case when they get it right, but frankly that's a gamble I just don't want to take with a beloved original film.

I didn't realize about the Laser thing, I gotta watch the trailer again, that would be weird if they took out the lasers since in the flashbacks of the old movies they had them in there.... I'm pretty sure like most fans, we'll find plenty to complain about once the movie comes out, just please don't screw up the story. Looking at the trailer there's really not much story in there, just a bunch of explosions but I guess it was intentional, I hope all those actions scenes in the trailer doesn't define the whole movie, I'm looking for some talking heads, some explanations and so on... It kind of makes me feel a little better, just a little, that Bale cared so much about the script to have it revive, one thing I'm sure about, this film may not live up to my expectations but atleast its no T3.
