10 bit uncompressed MOV files

I'm having a dog of a time converting or finding a way to get this file into Premiere CS4 on my PC... anyone have any luck working with these types of files? What codecs or software did you use?

MOV is just the wrapper. You need to actually know the codec that was used to encode it. If it's uncompressed (no codec) the Premiere should have no problem with it. Otherwise it could be something like ProRes, in which case you'll have to download the codec and install it.

Yea thats what's been mixing me up. I got the file from technicolor from digitizing some film.

It is an uncompressed 10 bit Mov when i look at the details of it, no codecs. Yet nothing i have will play it. Quicktime says error, premiere gives me some generic error nonplayable file.

I may have to convert the file down to something but can't do that till I'm able to play it somewhere.

did you try downloading the prores decoder? it should be included with your copy of quicktime already, but its worth a shot. Also, update your quicktime if you haven't. You sure its not a dnxhd encoded file? you could try downloading that codec as well.

Yea updated the quicktime for sure, and downloaded the avid codec as well.. still no luck. I know a friend of mine pulled it up on his final cut pro and it all worked fine. No hitch.

There must be some codecs that final cut has that my Adobe Premiere just dont got... yet.

Anyone know what could work? I've been searching online to no working answer. Black Magic Design Codecs.. AJA codecs.... been there done that. Anyone have experience in this?

it might be a very particularly encoded prores 422 hq file. I downloaded a bunch of Alexa test footage, it was all various flavors of prores, but one, that was supposedly 422 hq, refused to be open by anything. I think it's a bug in the windows decoder
