10 BIT editing

A question on my mind for a while,

I know that vegas trunctuates files to 8bit once they are imported, but what if files in vegas are edited then output as aaf, then the aaf is imported into AE, wouldn't this method hold the original file's integrity,
since the AAF provides pointers to the original file?

" what if files in vegas are edited then output as aaf"....."since the AAF provides pointers to the original file"

as you said AAF/EDL are just pointers to files = then AE can do 10/16 bit ( and output 10/16 bit if there is 10/16bit codec in computer system)

thanks donatello,

Here is how it went.........i edited in vegas, exported the aaf, color corrected in AE using 16bit, rendered out using black magic 10 bit 4:2:2 YUV, but OF COURSE
sony doesnt play well with others because when i tried to reimport into vegas, it wouldnt play the 10bit file, that because of vegas's 8bit rgb pipline, so dissapointed,

and oh ya, then tried to use the sony YUV codec but then you can only use it to export out of vegas, and this codec is not an option in other apps such as AE.

The only thing that worked was to export using the quicktime codec 10bit 4:2:2 between vegas and AE, but its so slow.

:furious3:sony
