10.3.6 - g5 don't sleep anymore - FIXED!!

Hi there,

I upgraded a perfectly smooth running 10.3.1 running fcp 4.1 to 10.3.6 with fcp 4.5 hd - I brought " motion " recently - so I had to do the dredded update. It all seems ok apart from the fact my computer doesn't want to sleep anymore ???
The display goes off but I still hear the mac hum even tho its set to go off after 10 mins ?
Whats going on here - anyone have this prob ?

It was fine on 10.3.1 but 10.3.6 seems to be the culprit here so - of anyone can shed some light I would greatly appreciate it - cheers.

My thought is that when you upgraded it some of the settings were reset/changed. Find the settings where it controls the sleep function and set it to a setting you like.

I am running 10.3.4 on a dual 1.8 rev A that I got in June
I was afraid to upgrade to 10.3.5 let alone 10.3.6

Despite not upgrading (still running 10.3.4) my machine also stopped sleeping a couple months ago.
same symptoms as you describe.
I have no idea what changed on my machine - software is virtually un touched. I have added a USB 2.0 hub and some firewire drives, but I can't see why that would stop the whole machine from sleeping.

this is a relatively minor malfunction - but the fact that I have found any malfunction scares me...

The sleep thing is a MAC wide problem. I remember reading posts on the apple site about this a while back. I put my G5 to sleep one night and then I could not wake it up for nothing. It was dead to the world! I had to end up turning my multistrip off for a few seconds then turned it back on. Everything was fine and I just shut it down now instead using the sleep feature.

Hey! Mine doesn't sleep either.

I messed with the settings, and then it started sleeping, but I've been out since 2pm (it's 130am) and it's still on!

.... I have the same problem.
I'm running 10.3.6 but this happened around maybe 10.3.4

Ok I downloaded the firmware update & everything is fine - touch wood.
She's sleeping like a baby at night  :) as normal & wakes up with a tap to the key.

Its the uniprocsessor update - my investagation thru the googleworld led me to the source & it paid off.

Apple were aware of the prob in 10.3.5 & it was around that time that certain g5 models had sleep problems - so they uploaded the sleeping pil around june 2004 which is why all us " NON " 10.3.5 folks would have missed the firmware update since our g5's were running ok up till 10.3.4.
I upgraded from 10.3.1 !:o so I was definietly a lamb to slaughter.

is your machine a dual processor?
can you give your exact specs please?
