I'm looking at doing a video for a band, I'm planning on useing an hvx200 (that Im' getting ready to but) with one cam, and wanting many shots, crane, etc. what's the ideal workflow, I'm assuming some sort of storyboard to begin with... I've done alot of multicam stuff with cheaper dv cams but I can only afford one of these so what's the best way?

..it is pretty easy... setup for shot... shoot it... setup for next shot... shoot it.. wash rinse repeat...

storyboarding is definitely a good idea.. especially for a music video...

Ummm....make a shot list. Perhaps draw a floor with all your lighting setups. Then create the most effeciate order to shoot things in, making sure you do all the shots of one lighting setup together. Pretty simple.

Unless you actually have a seperate crew for each camera, working with two cameras can create more problems then it solves.

I have done this with my 2 DVX cameras. One as a stationary master shot and the other for close ups and movements and worked well. You do have to make sure you align the tapes up in post (much easier if you use TCG and then activate both cameras with the same remote control.

I put my master on track one and the cut aways on track two when I edit in Premiere Pro 1.5

As I find a good cut away, I cut the edit line out until I have repeated all the steps to the end

Then you can watch it as track 2 will override track 1, so you will see how your cut aways look against your master and make sure you don't have any jump cuts or confusing movements.

My production was done at a concert so did not have the luxuary of a one camera set up with multiple takes.

It seems popular these days to include insert shots from other types of cameras. I too prefer one camera, but the use of digital 8, dv and dvcam intermixed with the rez'ed up HVZ might add something to your project as well. It's not for everyone. I just shot a multicam shoot of the band Slipknot. We shot with two Sony Cinealtas, one JVC hdv camera, and a small palmcorder. These are interviews to be included as extras for their cd. It has that MTV feel.....whatever that is...

That is a good idea since I have two small palmcorders, maybe strap one to the end of a guitar or something like that, thanks for the ideas.
