Does Century Optic's 1.6X Tele-Converter help increas a shallower depth of field?
Lets say, I back up as far as I can go and zoom all the way in, will something like this help? I have never used it before and am curious to know.

Thanks

Roman,

Please read the sticky at the top of this section "how about a depth of field (DOF) tutorial"

Barry Green's excellent reply even has two photo's that clearly illustrate the shallow DOF look obtained by using the tele end of the lens. A telephoto attachment will further enhance that look.

Bill!

How does the 1.6 tele-converter works together with the DS-1609-SB? Can I use the VS-16TC-XL or VS-16TC-MXL together with the DS-1609-SB? If not, than which one do you recommend?

Where Can I rent one? I've been looking to rent one in NYC and two rental houses are telling me I'd have to buy one. Why is that?

There appears to be some confusion: the DS-1609-SB is an anamorphic adapter for the Sony PD150/170 and VX2000/2100. The two 1.6X tele's are for the Canon XL1/2 auto focus and manual zooms respectively.

As a generalization anamorphic adapters are not compatible with other lens attachments such as telephoto or wide angle converters. This particular anamorphic would definitely not be compatible with tele-converters, it is only useable at the wide half of the Sony camera's zoom range.

Roman: Have you tried Able Cine yet?

I just left a message to them...
will it work with the DVX100A as well? Or, is the 1.6X Tele-Converter exclusively for Canon XL1/2?

Bill, what do you think about this picture. It is an anamorphic adapter together with a wide angle converter.

I said "as a generalization" in what was clearly a futile attempt to avoid boring everyone with a longer answer (humor). In the photo a Century .8X Broadcast Wide Angle converter is apparently being used in front of an anamorphic on a MiniDV camera. It is possible to mount a Wide Angle adapter or converter in front of an anamorphic but it will require using a MUCH larger unit (as well as much more expensive - that is an almost $2000 attachment in the pic) than the one designed for the camera being used.

Tele's even much larger ones are not likely to be practical because most anamorphics are barely adequate (or worse) at the max tele of the camera lense alone, and the performance becomes unacceptable when you ad the tele.

Thak you Bill. Do you think it is possible to use this WA adapter together with the 16:9 adapter?

My questions are which camera and which anamorphic? If you are talking about the DVX100/100A and the Panasonic anamorphic (the only one avail for the camera) , the answer is no. If you are talking about a much smaller anamorphic on a camera like the Sony PD150/170 in the pic, the answer is maybe.

Let me know, if we have the camera/anamorphic here I will be happy to try it and let you know what I think.
