••Bronica Medium Format Lense Adapter?••

I know there are adapters out there that will allow you to use a canon lense on a nikon mount, or a nikon lense on an old Pentak K mount. Does anyone know if there is an adapter to that will allow you to use a medium format lense on a nikon or canon mount. The reason I ask is that I have a couple of these lenses and i would like to use them with my 35mm DOF adapter.

Any ideas?

YEah I made a 35mm adapter with broinca lenses. For mine I just gutted the body of an old Bronica and added the gg towards the back. It works pretty well. There's actually a guy on here who has made a pretty impressive medium format adapter. I think his ID is TeddyBear. Do a search.

it dont know about the medium format adapters but when it comes to 35mm adapters. you can get a nikon lenses to canon mount adapter but not the other way around. So specific companies may be tricky.

does anyone know what is the advantages of making a DOF adapter using medium format lenses? Is it onlya bigger image projected?

Using the medium format lens and a suitable GG should allow quite a bit more DOF control. Rather than the effect of a 35mm camera you would have a 70mm camera.

I would think though that all the math would be different. Achromats would need to be larger as would the GG if you want to take advantage of the larger lens. Keep us posted on your results.

ok...so last idiotic question here.....

I've seen on ebay some Hasselblad to Nikon converters..allows you to use medium format lenses on a D70 or D50.

anyone heard of this? I know nothing about the Hasselblad lenses......do they have the same thread as the Bronicas? Can they be used? or does anyone know of a similar converter for Bronicas to Nikon's or Canon's...neck or even to a Hasselblad?

Well, you could get a converter but then you're just essentially using a larger lens, rather than getting the advantage of the full medium format system. To take advantage of all of it you'd need a medium format GG, not just the lens.

Bronica and Hasselblad have different mounts, so that adapter won't work for you. Also keep in mind that if you put that 70mm lens on a 35mm adapter, that lens s going to multiply due to the smaller image size. Just think about the digital slr cameras (like the Rebels and 20d) that have a smalller than 35mm sensor. When you put a 35mm lens on them it jumps the lens length by 1.6x. Just keep that in mind before you go shopping for a $100 adapter.

Another option is to build an adapter yourself. All those things are the 2 different mounts attached to a tube. The hard part is getting the tube length right. Also thise adapters jump the focal length also....

Remember that medium format lenses tend to be fairly slow. Usually f4 with a few f2.8s/
Kinda limits their use if you are going for shallow depth of field.

Chuck,

I have a hybrid adapter for both 35mm and 645 lenses. And a dedicated 645 adapter.
Actually, f4 is not the usual. My 80mm is f1.9, it has amazing DOF. 45mm f2.8, still great DOF, 150mm f3.5 great DOF. All mamiya sekors.

The arguement against is best stated in cost of lenses.
Lack of versatility in lens options, like wide and long, though there are work arounds but rare mainstream availability.

They do cast a bigger gg image BUT the resolution gain is not to die for. I have posted chart camparisions somewhere here.

Winston should post test charts and footage from different situations, low light, still life, head shots landscape using an HD camera etc.

I agree with Kholi and others that he should post more samples rather than ignoring calls for samples.
The website for his adapter cannot provide the necessary info to generate interest on an otherwise interesting product.

Dont send dvds, post footage and grabs from charts.

This is a constructive marketing advice

Hi Ted,

Your right there are some lenses for the 645 format that are a bit faster. My mind is just stuck in Hasselblad 6x6 mode I guess. lol

I had a mamiya to nikon mount that I put on my adapter and used a Mamiya medium format lens on it. Worked fine. Only real difference is that the lens will appear more telephoto. i.e. 50mm medium format will look more telephoto than a 50mm nikon on the same adapter for example.

Later,
Jason
