“Second unit” cam

Re: “Second unit” cam

I'd still check out the GS-400, Great little cam......It has contrast, exposure, color and sharpness settings to match the DVX with! Major weakness is no slow shutter 1/60 -1/8000 only and a slight smearing problem that might be solved with 3rd party lens hood!

dakotapod

that cam on Ebay isn't (strictly speaking) an EZ30. I'm sure the image quality is identical to the EZ30 but that's the domestic DJ100 version on sale there.

The EZ30 is matt grey, says 'EZ30' in big letters where this one says 'digicam' and has 24X digital zoom, not 120X. The most important thing to watch out for though, is that the EZ30 was supplied with Panasonic's own wideangle adapter which makes a HUGE difference to it's useability.

You probably knew all this - but I just thought I'd throw in the heads up - just in case.

Ya – It’s the Japanese version (still NTSC) – Not sure differences, haven’t looked into that yet. Nothing major I’m sure. Menu and everything is all in Japanese (Which I don’t read) so I’ll just keep looking around. :(

I never noticed WA was not included though – Thanx! :)

Re: “Second unit” cam

I meant to add my recommendation of the EZ30 as well, dakotapod. I had mine as a second camera to my xl1s and I always prefered the image from the smaller camera. Colour always seemed much more natural, highlights better controlled - dare I say it? ... more film-like?

Funny thing is I havn't used mine in ages and this thread got me thinking about using it as a second with my DVX ... think I'll do some tests and see how it holds up.

Re: “Second unit” cam

The GS400 is 3CCD's - and each is 1/4.7" - and it has higher vertical line resolution than the DVX100a in 16:9 - and it has a higher pixel count when shooting - both in 4:3 and 16:9

Ya - Been trying to find an EZ1 or EZ30 for over a month. Hard to find (Well, had a couple guys ask $1600 - $1700. Thats silly)

Re: “Second unit” cam

I may be posting a bit late however I used a TRV900 for 4 years as a documentary cam. Loved it. Was a workhorse, nary a problem aside from one of the mic elements going out. Picture was rock solid and hated to part with it when it came time. Sold for around $900 - you could probably get them for cheaper but you're dealing with a camera that is now 7 years old almost.
