    The crazy price of storage!

This isn't an issue on my camcorders but my mirrorless cameras suffer from this. I believe this is because with large sensors the manufacture optimize for 4k and for 1080 they're line skipping or pixel binning to reduce the resolution without cropping. I assume its more intensive process to down...

    The crazy price of storage!

Its a complicated issue. Generally in my business my clients theater or event related it's hard enough to get them to pay for the video, let alone charge more for backup, most would balk. I actually had a dancer contact me today requesting video from their performances many years ago. For the...

    The crazy price of storage!

I was researching a laptop purchase a year ago the subject of these companies causing a shortage was known and planned by these companies but there was nothing that anyone could do to stop it. So in some ways your process should always be the same that you consider all costs in producing a...

    The crazy price of storage!

There are only 3 companies that manufacture ram/ssd they colluded to cut production of consumer ram/ssd so it would cause a shortage and drive up prices and switched part of the production to more profitable ai data center applications that use different designs. I believe the high prices and...

Pocket 4 or Insta360 Luna Ultra Creator?

My general take away they work best in full auto but manual control is problematic. There is also software issues especially with the Luna that needs to be worked out. For example, not being able to change settings while recording. Large exposure shifts when changing lenses. No exposure tools or...

Is the DJI mic 2 worth it with the fx6?

I would be careful using these type of consumer grade devices for a paying jobs. I heard from a number of content creators who have all sorts of glitches, recording stopping, the variable clock drift that makes syncing impossible, wireless interference etc. If you need to lav someone up you...

    Mic bumping sound

That’s a tough situation. I find with education docs the more you just let things happen you get into issues like this. I’d set up an interview station in a different room or in the hallway and mic the student. This is because clear audio is more important because broll is going on top of most...

    Mic bumping sound

After you get through this you should come with plan to either get the mic off the camera or get a better shock mount. Few things come to mind: wear one of those clip on audio recorders as a back up. If your moving around the mic moves with you Get a portable mic stand that’s quick to setup...

    Mic bumping sound

I have always found if the noise is in the same frequency as the voice there not much you can do. Handling noise is usually in the lower frequencies. So if you cut the lows the voice will have less bass but sometimes its better than nothing so it doesn't hurt to try. Mics have had that same roll...

Dual channel wireless UHF audio systems - SONY, Deity, RODE...?

I own a pair of Sony UWP-D26. I've used them for many years, never let me down. They have great range and just work. That's all I care about. I don't trust Deity. There are a couple of annoying things with UWP. The first the battery indicator is useless so much so Sony includes a built in timer...

    C100: Yeesh maaaan

People on the internet like to over think the numbers and specs but often it comes down to whether a camera matches what you need to do.

MIRRORLESS: Lumix GH6: what is base ISO?

That was my point. To put things in perspective under sunlight DR from highlight to shadow is around 19 stops, humans can perceive 14, cameras make wild claims but realistically around 10 so whether you can squeeze out half to 1 extra stop of DR is relatively small. It's not to say there isn't...

MIRRORLESS: Lumix GH6: what is base ISO?

Yes. If you’re filming a feature movie and have an entire team you have the luxury of being picky and wanting to abide by the 180 rule for consistency and the best look. But for solo doc work I think it’s more important to put your energy into what you’re filming not your camera settings...

MIRRORLESS: Lumix GH6: what is base ISO?

No I wouldn’t recommend closing the aperture past f/8. I would increase the shutter speed until I got the correct exposure. Because don’t find motion blur to be critical but again this is subjective. Each approach has its own tradeoffs including variable NDs. In my experience doc work isn’t...

MIRRORLESS: Lumix GH6: what is base ISO?

Like I said generally the down side of using lower iso below base iso results in less dynamic range in the highlights. Since recovering highlights is more useful shooting outside that’s why Bob is recommended 800 iso with variable ND to lower the exposure instead of lowering the iso. It is my...

MIRRORLESS: Lumix GH6: what is base ISO?

I think the DR you gain is fairly small in comparison to the range on a bright sunny day. If you're not filming a movie it's reasonable to skip the Vlog. It's a subjective whether it's worth it. Below base iso generally reduces DR of the highlights.

    C70: understanding AF

Chat GBT knows better than the camera manual. I prefer how Sony does tap to focus on what you want to track. AF has gotten complicated.

    C100: Yeesh maaaan

I looked up the specs and the codecs are similar. While XF100 has a higher bitrate 50mbs that's 10bit color, while the C100 35mbs it's 8bit color. I'd rather have it's larger sensor. There is a common misconception higher bitrate is better but past a certain threshold it isn't perceivable...

MIRRORLESS: GH7 + NVMe 2230 in CFexpress adapter: ProRes RAW 5.7K records long, then stops with “writing speed limitation” (odd remaining time)

The changing remaining time is common for all cameras because as you surmised they record with a variable bitrate so it can only be an estimate. As for the rest always use what the manufacture recommends, no third party batteries, or anything that's not supported (memory cards or external...

    White balance on the run

I rarely use 60p but it's very useful for gimbal and broll stuff. It's not that we all can't come up with a work around its about Canon intentionally omitting things to "encourage" you buy another camera or upgrade. Doesn't the C80 leave that off too or you can't shoot raw in 4k60. There so...
